British Fertility Society response to HFEA launch of public consultation on sperm and egg donation

Mrs Alison McTavish, Secretary of the British Fertility Society said:
“The donation of sperm and eggs is a key aspect of assisted reproduction and many couples rely on donors to create a family. However, many patients we see in our clinics currently face a long wait for treatment due to a shortage of donors. It is important that this consultation looks at how we can improve this situation and increase the number of donors to allow more couples the opportunity of starting a family.
“The British Fertility Society looks forward to working with the HFEA on the consultation to address this significant area of health care provision, which is currently inadequate to meet current and future service needs.”
